The Rutani religion is unique in Bargas; while it is monotheistic and worships the goddess Aligern, the Rutani believe that Aligern has many different aspects and takes different forms. Her primary depiction is of an anthropomorphic mare, representing the importance of horses to the Rutani. Other aspects include the rains, the grasses, the moons, fertility, the hunt, life, death, and battle, among others. Rutani dogma treats the gods of other cultures as their interpretation of Aligern.

The Rutani clergy is solely female and emphasizes physical health and stamina, honoring ancestors, and building the bonds of the clans and with their steeds. The religious hierarchy is branching, strong, and religious roles are specialized, with the primary function of the clergy to be leading the Rutani in spiritual matters.
